SAN JUAN, Texas -- A new ordinance for the city of San Juan (Texas) will require all regulated business to have surveillance cameras.
The ordinance, which is takes effect in November, states that cameras must be located near store entrances and at the cash wraps, where registers are located, reports ValleyCentral.com. Businesses that are currently without cameras will have until the end of November to install them.
If businesses fail to comply with the ordinance, they will face a fine of no less than $100, but no more than $200 for the first violation; a fine of no less than $300, but no more than $500 for the second violation; a fine of no less than $500, but no more than $1,000 for the third and each violation after.
Additionally, the San Juan Police Department is looking into grants that will help businesses handle the costs of the surveillance equipment.
