NEW YORK — Verint announces it has been awarded a contract by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to provide IP video solutions to the World Trade Center (WTC) Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) Transportation Hub.

The Port Authority will implement the Verint Nextiva security solution across entrances, exits, platforms, and electrical and telecommunications rooms. The goal of the system's implementation is to increase situational awareness, improve preparedness, and enhance passenger safety and the security of facilities.

Slated to open in 2014, the 800,000-square foot WTC transportation hub will make Lower Manhattan the third-largest transportation center in New York. It will re-establish the transportation facilities and infrastructure that existed at the WTC complex prior to 9/11.

Designed to serve more than 250,000 travelers daily, the hub will link to the Hudson River ferry terminals and the World Financial Center through an underground concourse. It will also connect to PATH trains, 13 subway lines and the proposed JFK rail link.

Verint and its integration partner Diebold Inc. will work together to deliver a robust security system for the facility. Using the IP video supplier's Nextiva portfolio, PANYNJ will be able to capture high-quality video images, optimize bandwidth and storage utilization, according to a press release. Additionally, the authority has the ability to leverage flexible video search capabilities, and benefit from programmable video retention and storage.

"The Port Authority's decision to extend its Nextiva deployment at the new WTC transportation hub is indicative of the strength of our solutions. It also shows Verint's ongoing commitment to help secure our nation's critical infrastructure," Verint Video Intelligence Solutions President Elan Moriah says.
