CLOVIS, Calif. — Pelco by Schneider Electric cut 50 jobs due to a turbulent economy and rising material costs, the company announced today.
Although the layoffs mostly affect workers at the Clovis, Calif.-based manufacturing plant, the downsizing is scattered nationwide, Pelco Marketing Communications Specialist Heather Calandra told SSI.
"It's throughout the entire organization, so it's not specific to one department," she said.
Calandra declined to say what positions would be affected by the downsizing.
The company also cut 22 jobs at Schneider Electric's West Kingston, R.I.-based plant Tuesday, reports NBC News 10.
In attempts to avoid layoffs, the company said it increased prices and initiated restrictions on travel, hiring and discretionary spending, but to no avail, according to a press release.
The company said it would provide severance packages, as well as outplacement, counseling and other services to affected workers.
This is the second layoff for Schneider Electric this year, The Fresno Bee reports. The company eliminated 30 jobs in April. Schneider purchased Pelco in 2007, adding the business to its building automation segment.
