N.Y. Housing Authority Seeks to Add Video Surveillance Program

April 20, 2010 | Comments (0) | Post a comment

The Rochester Housing Authority (RHA) is considering initiating a video surveillance program to monitor its public housing complexes.

The discussions about an authority-wide surveillance system by concerned residents sparked the authority to solicit bids from companies to design a video surveillance system throughout RHA properties, which houses as many as 4,600 people, according to Democrat and Chronicle. The bid requires that the cameras be linked to a central monitoring site; however, it does not detail its location or whether the authority or a contractor would oversee the system.

The deadline for proposals is April 27.

RHA officials say they are seeking to add the surveillance system to be a crime deterrent.
