PARSIPPANY, N.J. — A new partnership allows systems integrator Convergint Technologies to install, maintain and repair access control and video surveillance solutions for Securitas Security Services USA customers.

Prompted by customers to offer more technology solutions, Securitas, a guard services company, had to decide whether to offer the services itself or collaborate with another company.

"This partnership helps in getting to our next step of creating the total security program for our clients," Securitas USA COO Bill Barthelemy says. "It is vital that integrate our security officers with the latest in technology, to bring additional value to our clients."

Having worked together on a few projects, the companies have discussed the venture for eight months, Convergint's Security Division Vice President Tony Varco tells SSI. Initially, Convergint will provide physical security systems to Securitas customers. However, there are plans to offer fire/life-safety and building automation solutions in the future.

"One of the nice things about this is that it's available to all types of customers, not just one particular vertical," Varco says. "This partnership provides an interesting entree to customers that we may or may not be doing business with today. I think that's very attractive to be able to show them what we can do. We will be able to build our client base and add some new customer business."

Convergint will not provide monitoring services for the systems. Rather, Securitas customers will find their own third-party central stations, Varco says.
