Swift Action Negates Any Glitches
Sansone says, by and large, this prison installation went more smoothly than some of his previous experiences, mostly because the inmates were not present. "With other projects we go on, there is usually a lot of downtime because usually you might be 50 percent over your labor because [the facility] has a lockdown and you're stuck in one place," he says.
With the prisoners being gone, the integrator had a week to go over the system with the sheriff's office and work out all the kinks. However, the previously installed system did pose some problems.
"The biggest problem we had here was figuring out what the prior installation was and how it was done because it wasn't right," explains Sansone. "Everything had to be completely redone, including some of the wiring that was supposedly OK."
Furthermore, there were a few glitches with integrating the IP intercom system. The integrator encountered difficulty with the data streams for the integration to be done properly, so it had to get in contact with an English-speaking engineer from Japan's TOA Electronics to work through many of the barriers. Otherwise, Sansone says everything else went according to plan.
With a total of roughly 1,250 man-hours for the installation alone, the project was completed on schedule in early February, and the inmates were able to move back into the facility. Since the system's completion, the company has gone on several routine installation service calls. The sheriff's office is pleased with the system and has yet to make one complaint.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the work T&R performed throughout the development process," says McGuire. "I was extremely impressed of the amount of prep work they did before we even moved the inmates out of the unit."
Even with the limited time to get the job done, Sansone always knew his team would succeed with the job's completion. "In 39 years of service, [our company has] never said, 'That can't be done,'" he says. "We always find a way to get the job done and get it done right."
