District Considers Installing $2M Security Camera System

BURLINGTON, Ontario, Canada — The Halton Catholic District School Board is looking to install new video security systems at its eight high schools. The new technology has an estimated cost of $2 million.

If approved at the June 21 board meeting, the project is expected to start over the summer and be completed by December 2011, the Burlington Post reports. Currently only three of the district's high schools have video surveillance systems.  

The new system would employ two to three-dozen motion-activated cameras at each school. The cameras will be placed in corridors, the cafeteria, library and certain exterior ground areas, among other places.
