AT&T to Launch Home Security, Energy Management Business

November 22, 2011 | Comments (0) | Post a comment

ATLANTA — AT&T plans to launch a new business division here called Digital Life Services, which will offer home security, home monitoring, energy management and remote healthcare, reports the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

This isn't the first attempt for AT&T to break into this market, reports theverge.com. Earlier this year, AT&T teamed up with E3 Greentech, which leverages cloud-based technology to help utilities manage the energy consumption of buildings. In 2010, the telecom acquired home automation specialist Xanboo to complement its Smart Grid home automation offering.

It is unclear when Digital Life Services will roll out, how much it will cost and who will be able to use it.

AT&T is the latest telecom to jump on the home automation bandwagon. Last month, Verizon released its Home Monitoring and Control service, which allows homeowners to adjust and control lights, smart thermostats and appliances. It also allows users to view video feeds from networked cameras and lock doors remotely.
