PITTSBURGH — Vector Security has teamed up with Spacenet Inc., a data network services provider, to offer managed network services to its national accounts and retail customers. As part of the partnership, Spacenet clients will also have access to Vector Security's interactive security services.
The deal allows Vector to offer broadband video monitoring to help retailers with loss prevention (LP), life-safety and asset preservation applications. The new solution provides proactive monitoring and support through virtual private networks (VPNs), compliance services and secured hosting. The services will also offer other IT-based services such as VoIP, Wi-Fi, multicast and merchant connectivity, Vector Security Executive Vice President Michael Grady tells SSI.
"It's become clear that contemporary retail LP-related services and newer data reliant LP services are migrating to Internet-based platforms," he says. "That trend and others within the retail industry require retailers to strengthen their IT platforms to optimize the deployment of these retail-related services."
When choosing what company to partner with to offer the managed services, three factors came into play for Vector, Grady says. First was the emphasis to deliver and manage more LP-related services via the Internet. Secondly, the security company wanted to help retailers improve their IT networks to adopt that change. Lastly, Vector sought to combine IT- and LP-related technologies together to protect customer information and ensure PCI compliance.
However, to implement these services, Vector Security realized that it needed to address the lack of available bandwidth facing retailers today. Enter Spacenet, which helps large, multisite retailers with bandwidth challenges.
"Bandwidth and security are the two key - and conflicting - challenges facing retailers today," Spacenet Senior Vice President and General Manager Brad Wise tells SSI. "So why reinvent the wheel? Our expertise is delivering greater bandwidth more reliably and cost effectively. Vector's expertise is LP and security services. By our companies joining forces, retailers are getting the best of both worlds - leading edge security solutions, backed by bandwidth and support to handle security."
Although retailers have yet to roll out the solution, the companies have received a great amount of feedback The companies are currently in talks with several customers to implement the new solution, Grady says.
