HID Global Receives Additional Order to Provide U.S. Green Cards

IRVINE, Calif. — The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) border security program has asked HID Global to continue manufacturing and supplying permanent resident cards, or green cards, for all legal foreign U.S. residents.

HID Global first began its partnership with USCIS in 1997. The company has provided more than 30 million of its first-generation green cards, none of which have ever been compromised, according to HID Global. The latest contract allows the company to provide more than 3million multi-technology eID cards as green cards.

Launched in mid-2010, the redesigned green card combines HID’s LaserCard optical security media (OSM) technology and an embedded RFID tag with other advanced security features. Customized specifically for USCIS, the OSM provides visual security in an era when 90% of eIDs are still authenticated by the human eye. HID Global also incorporated the RFID tag to accelerate legitimate passage at U.S. land borders.

Both generations of green cards provided by HID are counterfeit-resistant and machine-readable IDs, according to Kevin McKenna, vice president of sales for Government ID Solutions, Americas, HID Global.

“The proven security of our multi-technology eID cards contributes directly to the overall security of U.S. immigration and border control,” he says. “We are proud of our contribution to homeland security.”
