BOCA RATON, Fla. — Police here arrested an installing alarm technician Monday after he allegedly tried to steal more than $40,000 worth of jewelry during an alarm installation.

Jason Adams, 37, an employee for Safe Streets USA, a company subcontracted by ADT, was hired to install an alarm system in the home of a 50-year-old woman, the Sun Sentinel reports. When the homeowner saw Adams digging through a jewelry chest in her bedroom, the installer claimed to be looking for a panic button.

The victim ordered Adams to empty his pockets and discovered that he tried to steal a necklace, cross pendant and two watches — one valued at $32,000.

Adams faces larceny charges and was released on a $5,000 bond Tuesday.
