Nest Partners With Leary Firefighters Foundation to Provide $25K Grants

For the second time Nest has partnered with the foundation, established by actor Denis Leary, to provide two fire departments with the awards.

NEW YORK CITY — The Leary Firefighters Foundation (LFF) recently announced the recipients of the second annual Nest Technology Grant, which awards two fire companies $25,000 each for new technology and equipment.

Nest, maker of the Nest Protect Smoke + CO Alarm, and LFF asked communities to support outstanding public safety personnel by nominating their local department with a simple vote by providing their zip code. An extra vote was added for those entries that included a personal “thank you” comment or story.

Among five finalists, this year’s grants went to fire departments in Indianapolis, Ind., and Gainesville, Fla.

The Indianapolis Fire Department has received new technology to establish a working media department that allows the department to educate, train and inform using high-quality video and imagery production. The Gainesville Fire Department has received new technology, including MacBook Air laptops, training software and administrative equipment.

In a statement, Gainesville Fire Chief Jeff Lane said he was thankful for the grant.

“Our department will now be able to purchase much needed computers, training software and equipment that will be invaluable in the incident command education of our front line officers,” he said.

LLF was established in 2000 by actor Denis Leary in response to a tragic fire in Worcester, Mass., that claimed the lives of Leary’s cousin, a childhood friend and four other firefighters. The foundation’s mission is to provide funding and resources for fire departments to obtain the best available equipment, technology and training.
