SIA’s Mark Visbal Discusses Technology Trends for 2012

Security Technology

Mark Visbal: The emergence of near field communications will begin to challenge traditional card technologies. And there will be continued movement toward cloud-based SaaS and managed security services.

Security Markets

Visbal: Reduced government budgets will affect security spending and grants for first responders. Also of major impact will be an increased inclusion of mobile platforms as a primary control and viewing platform for security systems, increased functionality using these devices, and leveraging these devices for increased RMR.

Security Industry

Visbal: The proposed sunset of the PSTN will force companies to start planning for it now. Cloud-based security services will allow alternative RMR streams to increase.

Politics and Legislation

Visbal: Challenges here are ensuring that funding levels for existing grant programs are met. Also, having the ability to propose and/or implement new programs or sources of funding for the purchase of electronic physical security solutions as a result of the fiscal climate.
