NFPA 731

In mid-March, the various stakeholders that comprise the National Fire Protection Association Technical Committee on Premises Security will reconvene to continue contentious deliberations over a proposal to issue the latest revision to NFPA 730 as a code rather than a best-practices guide.

If NFPA has its way, the Standard for the Installation of Electronic Security Systems will be for commercial and industrial alarm systems what the Life Safety Code has been for fire systems. While debate rages on the merits of the standard, dealers and integrators are coming to grips with the reality that NFPA 731 has arrived.
