AIREF Donates $25K for SIAC’s Alarm Management Video

IRVING, Texas — The Alarm Industry Research and Educational Foundation (AIREF) donated $25,000 for a video that shows the cooperation and support between law enforcement and the security industry.

Created by the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC), the 12-minute video features current and former law enforcement officials discussing alarm management best practices.

“The video shows how SIAC has helped communities improve alarm management practices,” says SIAC Executive Director Stan Martin. “It also shows that it’s not enough to just sell, install, service and monitor security systems. We have to be involved in every issue that affects our industry.”

The video emphasizes the key to effectively managing alarms is by law enforcement, the security industry and the public working together to create a carefully crafted ordinance. It also stresses the importance of a well-thought-out local strategy, including SIAC’s Model Alarm Ordinance.

Developed in conjunction with North American law enforcement authorities, the model ordinance emphasizes best practices, such as:

  • Alarm     registration and user education
  • Strict     enforcement, including potential fines for alarm abusers and a limit on     free responses
  • Two-call     verification to cut down on the number of false dispatches
  • Making best     use of the latest technology, including CP-01 control panels

For his part, Martin is thrilled with AIREF’s donation to the project.

“AIREF repeatedly steps up to the plate to help finance important projects in the alarm industry,” he says.

One way the foundation is able to provide the needed funds is through its annual Golf Classic, according to AIREF Board of Directors Chairman John Jennings.

“The ability to fund these worthwhile projects would not be possible without the support of those who participate in the annual AIREF Golf Classic,” he says. “The generous sponsors who contribute to the event helped too. We’re very proud to be a part of this impactful endeavor.”
