ESA to Honor Charles “Dom” D’Ascoli With Weinstock Award

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Electronic Security Association (ESA) has named Charles “Dom” D’Ascoli as its 2013 Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year Award Tuesday during the 2014 ESA Leadership Summit in Orlando, Fla.

Considered the highest honor in the electronic security industry, the accolade recognizes an individual for his/her outstanding achievement and ongoing efforts on behalf of the association.

D’Ascoli, who was elected as president of the ESA executive committee in 2010, founded security system installation and monitoring company Smoky Mountain Systems in 1982. The firm also provides telephone system sales and service, home automation including lighting and control systems, and associated low voltage equipment and applications.

He also founded Smoky Mountain Internet Services Inc., a facilities based ISP and Web hosting and design company and is the managing partner of Unicom Communications LLC, a competitive local exchange carrier reselling local and long distance telephone service in North Carolina and Florida since 1997.

In 1984, D’Ascoli joined the Georgia Electronic Life Safety and Security Association (GELSSA) where he successfully lobbied for the passage of the current Georgia licensing requirements. His efforts prompted the association to elect him as secretary of the board of directors, served GELSSA for three years in that capacity.

He later joined the North Carolina Electronic Security Association (NCESA) in 1995. At NCESA, he has held two nonconsecutive terms as president, a term as vice president, and a term as treasurer. For eight years, he represented NCESA on the ESA board of directors. He also served as chairman of the standards committee and sat on the elections, National Training School and investment committees.

In 2007, he was elected vice president on the ESA executive committee and served in that capacity until his election as president of ESA in 2010.

During his presidency, D’Ascoli oversaw the move to new headquarters in Irving, Texas, allowing ESA increase service to members. D’Ascoli’s leadership also led to the creation of the member service center, where members are now able to get immediate assistance when they contact the organization.

ESA will present the accolade to D’Ascoli during the Electronic Security Expo (ESX) in Nashville, Tenn. on June 23-26.
