Hackett Security Buys Brinkmann Security, Expands Commercial Base

By Ashley Willis

ST. LOUIS — With its latest purchase of Waterloo, Ill.-based Brinkmann Security, Hackett Security has completed its 12th acquisition in 17 years. Terms of the deal, which closed in December, were not released.

The deal allows Hackett Security to expand its footprint throughout Illinois and Missouri. It also helps the company break into the high-end residential market as well as broaden its commercial clientele, Hackett Security President and CEO Michael Hackett tells SSI.

“We approached Brinkmann because of their quality of installations and the great service they provided their customers,” he says. “Also, many of their commercial applications were a lot of franchises with multiple stores, so it strengthens our market share.”

Started in 1977, Hackett Security has clients in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee. The company provides central station monitoring, door access systems, fire alarms, intrusion alarms and video surveillance. With a 70% commercial and a 30% residential split, the company has annual revenue of roughly $5 million, reports the St. Louis Business Journal.

Owned by the estate of the late John Brinkmann, who died last year, Brinkmann Security serviced clients throughout the Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois regions for more than 35 years. While Hackett declined to say how many accounts the company acquired, he noted that Brinkmann served a 60% commercial and 40% residential market.

Hackett Security, which owns a UL-Listed central station, will provide a new service to former Brinkmann clients — video monitoring.

“When we’re considering an acquisition, one of our motivators is if we can bring other services that customers didn’t get before,” Hackett says. “So for us to bring these clients our video monitoring solutions, particularly the franchises, it works out great.”

Hackett says he continues to actively seek acquisitions and hopes to increase his firm’s presence in Chicago and Memphis this year.
