IQ Certification Board to Hold Runoff Election

ERIE, Pa. — As a result of a three-way tie during its 2011 board of directors elections, the Installation Quality (IQ) Certification Program will hold a runoff election to determine who will take the two remaining positions on the board. This is the first time that the program has had a tie during its elections since it was founded in 1997.

The IQ Certification Board administers the IQ Certification Program, which sets standards and guidelines for alarm dealers to demonstrate they are working to reduce false alarm dispatches.

Each elected board member serves a two-year term. As part of their responsibilities, board members elect a chair, secretary and treasurer to serve one-year terms, as well as appoint at least two, but no more than four, public safety directors. One appointed director may be chosen from each of the law enforcement, fire, state regulator or insurance communities.

Because there are no guidelines in the event where there is a tie in the election, the current board decided to hold a runoff election between three candidates who are tied for two open board positions. The candidates include: Dave Currie, president of Security Response Center; Gail Schreiner, vice president of operations for AlarmWatch; and Laurie Mitchell, director of CMC Services for Siemens Building Technology.

Current IQ Board Chairman Tim Creenan of Amherst Alarm Inc., was re-elected to his position.

Ballots for the runoff election must be in by 5 p.m. EST, on Jan. 18. Results will be announced on Jan. 25.
