Lawsuit Filed in Virginia After Security Sales Reps Duped Customers Into Switching Providers
Utah-based companies Elite Home Security and NorthStar Alarm Services are accused of tricking General Security customers.
One customer claims the salesmen wouldn't leave his doorstep until he threatened to call the police.
RICHMOND, Va. — A home security company claims competitors tricked customers into switching to their services by impersonating alarm systems technicians, prompting the filing of a lawsuit in Richmond Federal Court on Oct. 2.
Courthouse News Services reports plaintiff General Security Inc., says sales reps for Utah-based home security companies Elite Home Security and NorthStar Alarm Services approached General Security customers while pretending to be alarm systems technicians.

Some of the salesmen claimed Elite had bought out General and that their preexisting contracts were no longer valid. Others posed as service technicians and stated the customers were overdue for an upgrade.
Many customers were tricked into switching after the reps cancelled their service after the right of rescission had ended, according to the complaint.
One suspicious customer told General that two of the sales reps would not leave his doorstep until he threatened to call police, the complaint says. Surveillance footage of another customer showed an elite salesman pretending to be a Honeywell representative.
