Mission 500 Honors Industry Professionals for Charitable Efforts
MIAMI — Mission 500 will host a special ceremony during ISC West to bestow its annual awards, which honor security firms and professionals for their charitable efforts in helping communities in crisis.
During the March 29 ceremony, Vivint will receive the Mission 500 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award recipient, and Monitronics Central Station Monitoring Director Mary Jensby will receive the Mission 500 Humanitarian Award.
Through its Vivint Gives Back fund-raising program, Vivint employees donated more than $1 million to 86 charities. During the “Feed My Starving Children” program, 500 staff volunteers packed more than 100 meals in two days at corporate headquarters. Vivint also provided immediate assistance for Joplin, Mo., residents after a tornado devastated the area in May 2011. Within 72 hours after the tornado struck, 20 team members began clean-up efforts.
Additionally, through its “Sub for Santa” program, Vivint provides Christmas gifts for kids throughout the country each year. The company encountered Lincoln Elementary, a school with 97% of the student population living below the poverty line. Working with teachers, Vivint provided badly needed items including food, clothing and bedding. Employees donated money, shopped for and wrapped gifts for 476 students.
In total, Vivint staff volunteered 8,400 hours of charitable service.
Well known in the industry for her service to the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and the Electronic Security Association (ESA), Jensby has spent years volunteering for community and social causes in the Dallas area. She currently leads Monitronics’ community service team, which includes working with the Dallas Salvation Army to prepare and serve meals. Jensby also volunteers at a North Texas Food Bank in a wide variety of tasks including unloading trucks, stocking shelves, emptying and filling cartons, loading tables and more.
At Christmas, Jensby’s team adopted a local elementary school and invited another special needs school to the Monitronics facility. Children enjoyed a day with Santa, a free lunch, presents and a tour of Monitronics’ service department. Additionally, each Christmas she has donated items to a local assisted living care facility, making sure that every resident receives a gift.
Realizing that charity starts at home, Jensby has made great efforts to assist employees in their times of need. When her assistant supervisor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Jensby did all she could to make sure he was comfortable, she tells SSI.
“Nothing is more local than a central station, and the employees themselves need assistance,” she says. “The assistant supervisor was so weak, but he had to appear for different reviews to receive disability. So, I took him personally because he needed someone. It’s amazing how much has to be done when someone is so fragile and cannot physically take care of all of that. Someone needs to be strong and fight the tough battles.”
In honor of that employee, Jensby created the Pat Dillingham Award, which honors employees who exemplify qualities of leadership, initiative, commitment, customer service and superb attendance. The event also prompted Jensby to volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
