Monitronics Embraces Wi-Fi for IP Alarm Communications

DALLAS — In an effort to help electronic security contractors reduce installation time and introduce its dealers to new technologies, Monitronics will begin accommodating Wi-Fi IP alarm communications.

The firm expects the popularity of Wi-Fi-enabled systems to increase in the coming months, prompting Monitronics to offer new technologies, such as Honeywell’s LYNX Touch 5100 self-contained wireless system, to its dealers. As it stands, wireless solutions eliminate the need to use Cat-5 wire to connect alarm communicators to the Internet, simplifying installations and reducing time to complete a job.

Because more than 60% of homes have wireless broadband, it was time for Monitronics to use high bandwidth in homes to deliver alarm signals, according to company vice president of sales and dealer program Bruce Mungiguerra.

“Adding the convenience of Wi-Fi to IP alarm communications is the next logical, major step in our industry,” he says.
