NAV to Provide Security and Surveillance for Denver Light Rail
DENVER — Colorado’s Regional Transportation District (RTD) awarded North American Video (NAV) a long-term contract to service all camera, access control, alarm and e-phone systems on its light rail system.
Covering more than 2,300 square miles, RTD comprises all or part of eight counties and offers transportation services, including bus, light rail, para-transit and park-n-ride facilities. More than 1,100 cameras and 150 card access doors currently protect the district.
NAV technicians are to be staffed onsite to handle any service issues that arise at any of RTD’s light rail locations. The contract also calls for NAV to increase staff in 2012 to monitor the new West Corridor, which services the central, southwest and southeast Denver metro areas. With five light rail lines with 37 stations, RTD plans to add 14 more stations to the system.
Previously, NAV worked with RTD to reconfigure the district’s existing video surveillance system into a hybrid digital solution. During the project, NAV employed a head-end digital matrix and integration to the regional command center. The job also called for the installation of 170 new cameras at 18 transit station platforms, as well as switching all transit station platforms to digital.
NAV CEO Jason Oakley says the new contract shows that RTD, which has been a NAV client for two years, is pleased with the company’s service and expertise.
“Our team is committed to supporting RTD in its goal of a providing a safe and secure light rail system for passengers and staff,” he says.
