NFPA Releases 2014 National Electrical Code in Digital Formats

QUINCY, Mass. — The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has released the 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC) in digital format. It will be available in PDF and through the National Fire Codes Subscription Service All Access (NFCSS).

A hard copy of the code will be available by the end of August. Additionally, members can pick up the hard copy code during the 2014 NFPA 70: NEC Essentials four-day seminars. Located at NFPA headquarters, the sessions will cover the 2014 NEC edition.

“The release of the latest edition of the code is highly anticipated because it provides the most up-to-date electrical safety requirements that will impact their work,” says Mark Earley, NFPA’s chief electrical engineer.

As one of the most widely used codes in the world, the NEC sets the standard for safe electrical installation and inspection to protect people and property from electrical hazards. Since 1911, NFPA has developed and published the NEC.

“I would argue that the NEC is equally as important to people outside of the electrical community, many of whom may not even know it exists, yet are protected daily from fire and electrical hazards because of it and have been for years,” Earley adds.

In addition to publishing the code, NFPA offers companion resources and education to help professionals learn how to understand and apply the latest code. The association will release a host of resources including the 2014 NEC Handbook, pocket guides for residential and commercial applications, eBooks and a mobile app.

NFPA recently launched nec connect, an online tool, to provide its members and others interested in electrical issues with news, information, tips, learning resources and networking opportunities related to NFPA 70, NEC. The Web site serves as a resource for installers and contractors, designers and engineers, code enforcers, and policymakers for all things related to the NEC.
