Orlando Police Chief Recommends Homeowners Install CCTV Cameras

ORLANDO, Fla. — In an effort to solve more property crime and burglary cases, the Orlando Police Department (OPD) is encouraging homeowners to install video surveillance cameras, ClickOrlando.com reports.

OPD officials noted that although the latest crime statistics show that overall crime in Orlando is down, property crime and burglaries have increased.

Police Chief Paul Rooney predicted if more residents installed video surveillance cameras in their homes there would be fewer break-ins and his officers and detectives would solve more burglary cases.

The police department recently launched a technology and forensics unit that allows officers to better leverage video surveillance recordings as an investigative tool, according to the report.
