Report: Consumer Analog Camera Sales Keep Growing in Americas Market
AUSTIN, Texas — Shipments of analog security cameras for consumers in the Americas will top three million by the end of the year, surpassing deliveries in the professional market, according to a new report by IMS Research.
The report titled, “The World Market for Consumer and DIY Video Surveillance Equipment — 2012 Edition,” notes that despite the difficult retail climate, consumer analog video sales through brick-and-mortar and online retailers continue to display strong growth.
“The Americas region is the largest and most mature regional market for consumer and DIY [do-it-yourself] video surveillance equipment,” IMS Research Analyst Josh Woodhouse says. “The increased growth of analog camera shipments in this market coupled with the decline in analog unit shipments in the professional market means for the first time we are approaching a tipping point.”
The study points out the consumer market remains only a fraction of the professional market in terms of revenues, yet the high volumes of analog security cameras shipped could extend the overall lifespan of analog security cameras and their components in the Americas market.
“While some of the trends and technology seen in the consumer video surveillance market feed directly from the professional space, the cost sensitive nature of the market and need for simple, easy-to-use products means the transition from analog to network video surveillance is slower in the consumer market than in the professional,” Woodhouse says.
