Respected Industry Veteran Dies in Car Crash

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Security industry professionals are mourning the loss of John Mabry, a long-time industry leader who died in a head-on car collision Dublin, Ga., on Nov. 18.

A former Navy veteran, Mabry founded American Alarm & Communications of Arlington, Mass., in 1971, which was later purchased by Honeywell. He served as vice president of Honeywell’s Protection Services Division, and later as vice present of the company’s Home and Building Control business unit.

Mabry was active in industry associations throughout his career. Among key roles, he served as president of CSAA from 1981 to 1983. A past president of the Electronic Security Association (ESA, formerly NBFAA), Mabry founded the organization’s National Training School (NTS). He also served as past president of the Security Network of America and was an affiliated partner for First Florida Capital Corp.

Throughout his career, Mabry made a great impact in the electronic security industry, CSAA Executive Vice President and CEO Steve Doyle said in a statement.

“I first met John Mabry 20 years ago. Over the years, the association often sought out John’s advice, as he was one of the visionaries in our industry,” Doyle said. “He was immensely helpful to the staff and to the board. John’s warmth and humor often spread calm on troubled waters. His insight into people and companies was always amazing. John was one of the ‘movers and shakers’ in our industry.”

A gathering for friends and family has been tentatively planned for Dec. 2, followed by a memorial service on Dec. 3, according to CSAA.
