Security Cameras Credited for Reduced Crime in S.C. Town

The town of Coward installed the video surveillance system to deter vandals from destroying public property.

COWARD, S.C. – Officials here are crediting a town-wide surveillance system with reducing the crime rate in the area.

In February, Coward Mayor asked the Florence County Council to purchase video surveillance equipment to deter vandals from destroying public property. In some incidents, the criminals stole money, and the town had to rely on tax revenue to make repairs from damages vandals caused, WMBF News reports.

The $8,500 security cameras have been placed in several areas throughout the town and monitor areas day and night.

Police have also said the cameras are helping to replace the need for more manpower, as well as assisting in resolving disputes.
