[Jan. 19, 2012] The Broward County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Department is crediting real-time video security monitoring for helping apprehend a man after he attempted to steal a truck from an automobile rental lot.
2. Tucson False Alarm Ordinance Causes Controversy Within Industry
[March 8, 2012] The Tucson City Council approved a revised alarm ordinance that requires alarm owners to pay an annual $20 permit fee.The ordinance had full support from the Arizona Alarm Association (AzAA); however, three local alarm companies strongly opposed it, stating that the measure could likely put small alarm companies out of business.
3. Johnson Controls Earns CSAA Five Diamond Certification
[Jan. 10, 2012] Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) has received Central Station Alarm Association’s (CSAA) Five Diamond certification for its Milwaukee-based alarm monitoring station.
4. Georgia Seeks to Implement Enhanced Call Verification
[Jan. 24, 2012] The Georgia House of Representatives is seeking to amend a state alarm law to require alarm companies to use alarm verification in an effort to conserve public safety resources, reports Examiner.com.
5. Audio Detection Technology Foils Break-in at Motorcycle Dealership
[May 2, 2012] Police are crediting a verified audio intrusion alarm system for helping apprehend six burglars just minutes after they broke into a motorcycle dealership in Durham, N.C.
6. Alarm Industry Partners With Texas-Based PD on Video Response Program
[April 5, 2012] In an effort to combat property crime and reduce false alarms, the police department here has teamed up with the alarm industry and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) for the Partnership for Priority Video Alarm Response program.
7. SafeMart Expands Wireless Home Security Services With Verizon
[May 16, 2012] SafeMart Home Security, based here, will extend its service capabilities with the addition of Verizon Wireless as a network service provider for its wireless home security systems.
8. Priority Video Response Seminar Focuses on Police, Industry Partnership
[Oct. 18, 2012] More than 100 members of the alarm, law enforcement and insurance industries attended a Partnership for Priority Video Alarm Response (PPVAR) seminar here to learn how to build public-private sector alliances through the use of video alarms and priority response.
9. HS Technology Wins PDQ Award for False Alarm Dispatch Reductions
[June 26, 2012] The Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) and the False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA) awarded HS Technology Group of Baltimore with the 2011 Police Dispatch Quality (PDQ) Award.
10. Baton Rouge PD Proposes Increase for False Alarm Fines
[March 14, 2012] After reportedly responding to 21,677 false alarms last year, the Baton Rouge Police Department has proposed amending the city’s alarm ordinance to allow for increased fines.
