Vector Security Acquires, Builds Presence in Ohio

GENEVA, Ohio — With its purchase of American Alert Corp., based here, Vector Security has added more than 5,000 accounts to its client base for undisclosed terms.

Founded in 1991 by David Johnson and Greg White, American Alert is a full-service installing and monitoring company in Ashtabula County. When Johnson and White decided to retire from the security industry, Vector Security decided to jump on the opportunity to expand its footprint in the Ohio region, Vector Security Vice President of Marketing Art Miller tells SSI.

“It’s part of our ongoing growth strategy to look for acquisitions that are a good fit within our markets,” he says. “We really wanted to expand more toward Cleveland and Erie. Fortunately, we found American Alert in Geneva, and it really is a perfect fit to round out our portfolio in that region.”

The deal allows Vector Security to offer interactive services, such as remote video monitoring, to American Alert’s 70% residential, 30% commercial client base.

“The customers are really excited about the product’s we’re going to offer them,” Miller says. “They’ve been asking for a lot of the services that we’re going to provide them with that in the past American Alert was not able to offer.”

Miller declined to comment on how much recurring monthly revenue (RMR) the acquisition will bring the company; however, he did say that Vector would keep everyone on the American Alert team. Managed by nine-year Vector Security veteran Christine Longley, workers will continue to operate out of the Geneva branch.
