Vivint Closes Call Center Aimed to Create 400 Jobs

Less than a year after opening a call center in Liberty Lake, Wash., to help create 400 jobs, Vivint plans to close the facility on June 27 for unknown reasons.

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – Less than a year after it opened a call center here, Vivint announced that it will close down the facility at the end of the month.

Vivint received a $150,000 incentive payment to open a Liberty Lake office from an economic development strategic reserve fund managed by the Washington governor’s office. The summer sales company had plans to created 400 jobs in the call center, The Spokesman-Review reports.

It is unclear why Vivint is closing the office or how many workers were employed there, although one anonymous former worker said the workforce in recent months was below 60.

In a statement, Vivint said all employees were eligible to receive severance, and some will be offered jobs to relocate to the firm’s Provo, Utah-based operations.

A representative for Greater Spokane Incorporated (GSI), which helped Vivint obtain the grant to cover some of the firm’s cost of locating workers in the area, believes the closure is likely the result of Vivint being acquired by Blackstone Capital Partners in 2012.

Robin Toth, a business development director for GSI, noted that many of the company executives that she had spoken to about arrangement are no longer with the firm. She also said that the state will not get the money back because Vivint met all the requirements to receive the grant.
