Integrators’ Resolve Trumps Recession
In this era of business uncertainty and instability, security systems integrators have found there is one thing they can count on: networked video. SSI‘s annual Systems Integration Study reveals that regardless of whatever other economic challenges and hardships may befall integrators, IP surveillance technologies remain a juggernaut.
Most systems integrators are thanking their lucky stars for IP video, which continues to grow at a robust clip that totally defies the economic depression. So bullish is this segment of the industry that integrators averaged 47-percent growth in IP camera sales even while those reporting “significant” declines in revenues more than doubled to nearly a third of all companies. These are just some of the telling findings of SSI’s sixth annual Systems Integration Study.
The growth in IP cameras has given rise to other areas as well, with gains seen in the overall percentage of new sales that are IP-based, use of megapixel cameras and inclusion of analytics technology. Integrators are also averaging more projects per month that include more cameras and earn $3,840 more per installation than they did a year ago. Although not as dramatic, gains were also registered in access control projects, both in terms of volume and size. Networked systems continue to rise, but the average price charged per opening dropped slightly.
In excess of 200 companies participated in the in-depth electronically administered survey, which consisted of more than 60 questions and was conducted by Bobit Business Media’s Research Department. SSI partnered with PSA Security Network, the largest organization of security integrators, and ISC organizers Reed Exhibitions to solicit respondents. To qualify, operators had to identify their business model as one where most installations involve integrated video surveillance and/or access control systems, and the majority of accounts are not monitored burglary/fire alarm systems.
One of the primary themes of the 2010 Systems Integration Study is resiliency. Despite reductions in revenues and profits amid increases in extreme cost cutting and layoffs, more than six in 10 say their outlook is outstanding if not optimistic. They recognize security will always be in demand.
