AISG Provides Huge Solar Power Plant With Video Surveillance Solution

The facility includes 19 miles of perimeter fence line and 749,000 photovoltaic panels that generate power for 100,000 California homes.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. – American Integrated Security Group (AISG), based in College Point, N.Y., has developed an IP-based video surveillance and monitoring solution for the California Valley Solar Ranch (CVSR), which is said to be the largest photovoltaic solar plant in the world.

“AISG was chosen for the CVSR project due to our vast experience in developing security solutions for the energy vertical,” said AISG President and CTO Levy Acs in a press statement. “In fact, overall, AISG secures more than 125 miles representing 1.25 GigaWatts of United States energy production.”

AISG engineers and designers are well versed in the various federal and state regulations that accompany solar energy projects and also work to choose the most environmentally sound and efficient solutions, said Acs.

The $1.6 billion CVSR project is a 250-megawatt central station photovoltaic solar power plant that generates power for more than 100,000 homes. The renewable energy site consists of more than 749,000 solar panels and offsets more than 336,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Located on thousands of acres in a remote area here, the site consists of several land arrays surrounded by more than 19 miles of perimeter fence.

“Security and monitoring is vital at solar power energy sites such CVSR to secure critical infrastructure, deter copper theft, and limit disruption of power for often-times hundreds of thousands – and even millions – of energy consumers,” said Acs.

At the site, AISG deploys IP-based video surveillance cameras, including thermal day/night cameras that can detect a human a half-mile away, combined with perimeter alarm and 24/7 surveillance monitoring services from a central monitoring center. These vast and expansive locations are often unattended, but are frequent targets of theft.

“Copper thieves, for example, are literally willing to risk death by electrocution in the pursuit of stealing and reselling this valuable commodity,” said Acs. “The only match for such determination is an industry-leading, tried-and-true, energy security solution such as those AISG has developed on the path to becoming a solar power security market leader.”
