iControl Sues Alarm.com for Patent Infringement

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — iControl Networks, a connected home technology provider, has filed a lawsuit against Alarm.com, claiming that the company’s interactive home security system infringed upon iControl’s patented technologies.

Filed with the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia, the complaint asserts that Alarm.com, along with one of its customers, FrontPoint Security, violated six iControl patents involving home security and automation technology.

Currently, ADT, Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner, Rogers Communications and Mediacom deploy home security and automation services using iControl technology.

“Intellectual property is crucial to the type of technology innovation that defines our company, and so we will do all we can to protect our most valuable assets,” iControl Networks CEO Bob Hagerty says. “As a pioneer in interactive home security, iControl has invested millions of dollars in research and development to bring to market the iControl OpenHome Software Platform.”

The complaint seeks damages and an injunction to stop the further sale of the infringing Alarm.com and FrontPoint Security products.

In response to the lawsuit, Alarm.com released the following statement:

“Alarm.com has not yet reviewed the claim and we have no specific comments at this time.  For the past 13 years, Alarm.com has pioneered the creation of interactive and connected home products and services, and continues to lead the market with new and novel technologies.  We will vigorously defend this history of innovation and our intellectual property.”

FrontPoint did not return messages for comments before press time.
