Orlando Surveillance Cameras Broken in Some Areas

Orlando police officers admit that some of the citywide security cameras have been broken for weeks.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Cameras installed in downtown Orlando as a deterrent for crime have been broken for weeks.

Local 6 News requested video footage from the city’s Innovative Response to Improve Safety (I.R.I.S.) video after a 22-year-old woman was killed by an officer’s stray bullet outside a local bar. However, the Orlando Police Department informed the news station that there was not record of the incident because the cameras were not working.

Reporters for Local 6 News contend that if the cameras had been operating, it would have shown what happened when officers confronted Kody Roach, an armed man outside the bar.

Representatives for the Orlando Police Department said the cameras stopped working after a repair worker cut the fiber cord.

Department officials said they have put in a request for the repair, but the fiber is not owned by OPD.
