Staples Gears Up for Broad Expansion of Its Automation Platform

LAS VEGAS — Following the launch of the Staples Connect platform in stores and online in November, Staples and Zonoff announced “an aggressive expansion of the program” at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) here, including new ecosystem device partners and support for additional wireless protocols.

Companies announcing support for the 2014 expansion of the Staples/Zonoff ecosystem include Kwikset, Netgear, Radio Thermostat, Centralite, Withings, Waxman, Goji, Koubachi and Rachio. Existing partners include Lutron, Philips, Linksys, Honeywell, First Alert, Yale, GE, D-Link, Cooper, Leviton, Schlage, Ecolink, Aeotech, Ivee and Doorbot.

The Staples Connect platform is also planning to expand support for ZigBee-, Bluetooth- and Insteon-based products, which will join Z-Wave, Lutron Clear Connect and Wi-Fi as radios/protocols supported. Staples will further its marketing efforts with a new Staples Connect in-store display in Manhattan.

“Staples Connect is already the most aggressive and interactive retail initiative to bring the connected home and office to the mainstream consumer,” claims Peter Gerstberger, director, technology merchandise, new business development, Staples. “We look forward to continuing to expand the device support and system capabilities over the coming weeks and months.”

Zonoff is demonstrating the Staples Connect system at a private suite in the Las Vegas Hotel at CES, held Jan. 7-10. Additional ecosystem partners will be announced throughout the year.

“We envision a home in which open standards like WiFi, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Bluetooth and others work seamlessly alongside traditionally proprietary standards like Lutron’s Clear Connect,” says Zonoff CEO Mike Harris. “Zonoff’s unique approach creates a single point of control for the customer while respecting, and leveraging, the individual brand experiences within the broader ecosystem.”
