Telguard Awarded Patent on Key Switch Arming Over a Wireless Connection

The patent covers a method to make remote arming and disarming applicable to new security panels and legacy systems.

ATLANTA – Telguard, a provider of wireless alarm communications, interactive and home automation services, announces the issuance of a patent for a “System and Method for Wireless Security Services Using a Key-Switch Interface.”

Telguard’s patented system (U.S. Patent 8,854,187) and method are embodied in its remote alarm control solution, Telguard Interactive, launched in 2010, according to the company. Telguard Interactive is available with all Telguard cellular communicators, including its TG-1 Express universal communicator for 3G/4G and CDMA networks, making it compatible with virtually all alarm panels. With minimal programming required, the platform leverages the basic features built into almost all security panels – the key switch zone, output triggers and opening and closing reports – for expedited installation and registration, according to the company.

“Telguard’s 30 year heritage has always been in universal communicators. With the rising need for interactive services, we invented a method to make remote arming and disarming applicable to not only new security panels, but also for legacy systems,” says Shawn Welsh, vice president marketing and business development, Telular. “The relevance of our patent is greater than ever now that the 2G sunset is only two years away. With Telguard Interactive, dealers can easily and economically offer basic interactive services to their 2G customer base regardless of the panel they have installed, as part of the upgrade to our universal communicators for 3G/4G or CDMA networks.”

In addition to giving consumers the ability to remotely arm and disarm their system from a mobile device, Telguard Interactive lets them receive notifications of any alarm status change, view arming and alerting history, and securely share access to their system, according to the company.
