Vivint Sales Rep Accused of Misleading Elderly Woman

An 88-year-old Missouri woman says a sales representative disconnected her Atlas Security system and replaced it with one from Vivint.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – An 88-year-old woman here claims that a Vivint sales representative took advantage of her by misrepresenting the product he was selling.

Edra Banks, an Atlas Security customer, was approached by a Vivint salesperson and technician in July. The told the elderly woman that they were updating Atlas’ system because the company was so big that they needed help, News-Leader reports.

The Vivint representative got Banks to sign a contract that included a higher monthly rate than what she’d been paying to Atlas.

On July 21, an Atlas representative contacted banks to see why the alarms Atlas had installed were not active. Banks then discovered that her interior motion sensors and a wired smoke alarm had been disconnected and replaced with a less comprehensive system.

After Atlas restored her previous service, Banks contacted the Vivint sales rep, who said he would cancel her new contract.

For its part, Vivint said that it does not condone deceptive sales practices and have taken action against the sales representative, who actually works for another company that is an authorized dealer for Vivint.

Meanwhile, Sam Blaine, a sales manager at Atlas Security, has written a complaint to Attorney General Chris Koster’s office about the incident with Banks, as well as several other occurrences.
