Comcast Unveils Home Control, Energy Savings Offerings

PHILADELPHIA — Cable provider Comcast has launched its Xfinity Home Control service in an effort to reach consumers that want smart home solutions but do not want to pay for professional security monitoring, the company announced this week.

The latest offering comes under the company’s Xfinity Home Secure umbrella of services. The Xfinity Home Control offering will allow customers to receive real-time text and E-mail alerts when doors and windows open or close; watch live streaming video of their home via wireless cameras; and manage home devices including lights and thermostats remotely or by using automated schedules.

Additionally, Comcast has inserted a new energy management solution called EcoSaver into the Xfinity Home Control offering.

The new cloud-based service will help customers reduce their energy use and save money on their utility bills year-round, according to a company release. Once paired with the Xfinity Home thermostat, EcoSaver learns the unique heating and cooling patterns of a home and makes automatic and incremental adjustments to the thermostat based on real-time weather data, the thermal characteristics of the house and the temperature preferences of the occupants.

EcoSaver is the second enhancement to Comcast’s Xfinity Home platform within weeks. Last week, the firm entered into an agreement with Osram Sylvania to offer energy efficient light bulbs that can be controlled remotely via the Xfinity Home platform.
