Hot issues, Products pace ISC Las Vegas
The soft economy, turf battles with electricians, changing telephone standards, digital video recorders (DVRs) and home automation were among the hottest topics at the 2001 International Security Conference and Exposition (ISC) West at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas April 4-6. More than 15,000 security professionals passed through the ISC, which shared space with The Home Automation Show and Conference, taking in seminars and seeing what the approximately 600 exhibitors from 67 countries had to offer.
Many of the exhibiting manufacturers that came to the desert with a sense of dread, due to the recent slew of sub-par earnings and layoffs, gained a renewed sense of optimism after their display booths were besieged with prospective customers during the morning hours of the show’s first two days. The buzz on the show floor was the variety of products. Besides DVRs and intelligent home products, biometrics, especially tied to access control applications, was another head-turning technology being demonstrated.
Aside from thousands of featured products, ISC West also offered a wide array of association meetings, press conferences, award presentations and seminars.
