New York Alarm Company Makes Acquisitions an Annual Event

AMHERST, N.Y. — Continuing what has been a yearly tradition of growth, contractor Amherst Alarm has made its fourth acquisition in the past four years. The Amherst, N.Y.-based firm has acquired Boston, N.Y., security provider Dotzler Security and Communications.

Under the December deal, for which the terms were not disclosed, Dotzler’s owner, Norman Dotzler, joins Amherst Alarm’s sales staff.

Amherst Alarm CEO Tim Creenan founded the company with his wife Maryann in 1984 and now has 12,000 accounts. Creenan says he sees not only more growth for his company, but for the alarm business as well.

“I’ve seen a big move in commercial work for access control, CCTV and growth in residential,” Dotzler says. “People are getting away from freebie systems.”
