Vivint Banned From Selling Door-to-Door in Wyoming City

The Cheyenne City Council and Cheyenne Police Department have opted not to renew Vivint’s solicitor license after residents complained of the security firm’s aggressive sales tactics.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Vivint will no longer be able to sell its security services door-to-door in Cheyenne, according to city authorities.

City officials said residents often complained about Vivint’s door-to-door sales representatives, which prompted authorities not to renew the security firm’s solicitor license, which expired July 1, Wyoming News reports.

Residents told Cheyenne Police Department officers that Vivint sales reps ignored “No Soliciting” signs and often made late-evening sales calls. Additionally, the department received reports about salespeople being too aggressive and refusing to depart from a residence after the homeowner asked them to leave.

The decision not to renew Vivint’s license comes a few months after the Cheyenne City Council passed an ordinance that enhances regulations on door-to-door sales.

Under the ordinance, all salespeople are required to register with the city clerk. After registering, sales representatives will receive a photo identification badge, which must be worn during all sales activities.

The regulation reduces the number of hours per day salespeople are allowed to knock on doors, as well as prohibiting them from approaching homes displaying a “No Solicitors” sign.

Vivint can reapply for a solicitor license at any time, according to city officials. The firm also has the right to appeal the city’s decision not to renew the license.
