PSIA Releases Content Management Specification

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (PSIA) has released its 1.0 Recording and Content Management (RaCM) specification for public use. The global consortium of physical security providers focuses its efforts on promoting interoperability of IP-enabled devices in the security industry.

The specification standardizes the way recording and content management products interface with other devices in the security environment, specifically security management systems. The primary goal is for the specification to be leveraged in recording devices and enable users to operate a video surveillance solution with a single video management system (VMS).

According to the organization, the open interface will not only reduce costs for solution providers, but it will also help secure investments in hardware and software. Security management systems supporting the RaCM specification will also support existing DVR and NVR solutions.

PSIA has made a strong push in the past year to promote interoperability of IP-based standards throughout the physical security industry. PSIA’s 1.0 API Media Device specification enables interoperability between disparate video products, thereby expanding opportunities for companies that provide solutions to the physical security marketplace.
