Retailer Cole Haan Selects March Networks, Diebold to Standardize on IP Video Solution

Diebold recommended its end customer standardize on March Networks intelligent video solution to replace a variety of legacy surveillance systems that were performing poorly and were increasingly costly to maintain.

NEW YORK – Global lifestyle brand Cole Haan has selected March Networks and Diebold (NYSE: DBD) for its enterprise-class video solution to help reduce shrink, enhance security and resolve liability claims in all of its 117 North American locations.

Acting on Diebold’s recommendation, Cole Haan decided to standardize on the March Networks intelligent video solution to replace a variety of older surveillance systems that were performing poorly and were increasingly costly to maintain. The new solution addresses all of the retailer’s key requirements, such as enabling the loss prevention team to conduct investigations remotely from its Greenland, N.H., global headquarters using March Networks video management software (VMS). The solution also provides local control at the store level so managers can review video recorded at their specific locations, and download evidence for law enforcement immediately if an incident occurs.

“The March Networks system has been instrumental in investigating cash variances and suspicious transactions, as well as helping us identify where more employee training may be needed,” says Elizabeth Mitchell, store controls manager, Cole Haan. “It’s also proven to be a very reliable, robust system that’s easy to use and provides us with excellent video quality.”

“We’re very happy with the March Networks solution and Diebold has been a great partner to work with, especially at a time when we’re opening new stores so rapidly,” Mitchell continues. “They’ve been very responsive and effective in getting the job done.”

Cole Haan currently has 90 stores equipped with a March Networks 8000 Series hybrid network video recorder (NVR) capturing video from an average of eight surveillance cameras installed behind point-of-sale (POS) terminals, throughout the sales floor, in backroom offices and at receiving doors. Available in 4-, 8-, 16- and 32-channel models, the recording platform supports a mix of analog and IP cameras or 100% IP video, enabling Cole Haan to upgrade easily to high-definition or megapixel IP cameras if required.

With the introduction of the NVRs, the retailer has already seen a marked improvement in video quality from its existing analog cameras, according to March Networks. Further, the recording platform provides Cole Haan with the option of fully integrating its video and POS transaction data using the vendor’s Searchlight for Retail software.

“Currently, we review our POS transactions for no-sales and voids, for example, and then go to the March Networks system to call up the video. With Searchlight, all of our investigative tools would be in one place, so it would be a lot more efficient,” Mitchell says.
