Securing the Perimeter

Wireless Perimeter Applications

I am excited to announce a new partnership between two old favorite security manufacturers: Optex and Inovonics. The new Optex wireless line (AX-TFR Series) allows for dual perimeter photo beam units to operate at 100- and 200-foot ranges with lithium battery operating lives of three to five years.

The exciting thing is that they are now configured with the very reliable Inovonics EchoStream line of transmitters. This combination can save considerable money compared to previously having to dig ditches to run cabling to perimeter devices (see diagram).

With the improved accuracy and availability of GPS/GIS services comes edge-based surveillance. Now system devices can be referenced by GPS coordinates (see sidebar).

Tech Talk Tool Tip

This month’s pick is a Web-based tool that can reduce weeks of camera system perimeter layout and specification to a matter of minutes or hours. The SightSurvey tool leverages Google Maps. Complete sites can be designed with just two clicks per camera.

A complete perimeter survey and proposal with pricing can be done virtually for the customer in a single meeting. The survey tool utilizes advanced geospatial (GIS) technologies with reference to the Google map information and then selects the best locations, angles, elevations, etc. for camera placement.
