DALLAS – In the past few years we’ve witnessed mainstream consumer products like Sonos and Nest transition from a hot, must-have consumer devices into an integration-friendly accessories for the custom channel.

August Home, a maker of smart locks and other security solutions for the front door, is following a similar path. This week at CEDIA 2016, August has formally announced the creation of its August Pro Program.

“We have already established a loyal consumer following by selling our product at Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and other leading retailers, so we feel that it’s time to take these hero product into the custom channel through partnerships with Nest, Logitech, Comcast, Honeywell, Worthington Distribution, ADI, and others,” says Nate Williams, August Home chief revenue officer.

As part of its dealer program, August aims to offer competitive dealer pricing and to add new features, like additional communications portals, and integration drivers for many of the industry’s top home control systems.

“We want to be able to put a little sizzle on top of a Savant, Control4, and other systems,” Williams says.

In addition to the August smart lock’s widespread familiarity in the consumer marketplace, Williams notes another key differentiating feature that will appeal to custom integrators is the company’s commitment to offering a complete, comprehensive security solution for the front door.

While other manufacturers offer solely smart locks, August also provides a doorbell camera, keypad, and a device called the August Connect that enables remote monitoring of all three products.

The lock, doorbell camera, and keypad can be tied together, communicate natively, and be monitored and controlled from the same mobile app.

“We think there has been a missed opportunity for comprehensive solutions for peace of mind at the front door,” Williams says. “Dealers have always had to integrate disparate products, but with our lineup of products they have a complete package with products that have been designed and engineered to work together.”

August Home’s distributor partners are ADI, Worthington Distribution, DOW Electronics, Top Notch Distributors and Amazon Business.
