Fire Alarm Firm Wants to Sever Ties With Trump Taj Mahal Casino

Tozour Energy Systems says Trump Entertainment, which runs the Taj Mahal Casino, owes the fire sprinkler and fire alarm firm more than $250,000.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Tozour Energy Systems, a company that oversees sprinkler systems, fire alarms and other safety equipment for businesses throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, is seeking to end its contract with the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort.

The fire alarm company has asked a bankruptcy court in Delaware to terminate its contract with the Taj Mahal on Oct. 18, claiming that the bankrupt casino owes the firm more than $250,000, Associated Press reports.

Tozour signed a contract with Trump Entertainment, who owns the casino, in February to perform maintenance services at the Taj Mahal. Services included inspections of sprinklers, fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems in restaurants and fire alarm systems.

However, when Trump Entertainment filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 9, the casino company owed Tozour $251,373. Afraid Trump Entertainment will run out of funds in bankruptcy court, Tozour made its filing, arguing that it should not be compelled to provide services to the casino.

In its court filing, Tozour says its services are not necessary for the casino to keep operating. Additionally, the firm says it has the right to terminate the contract on a 30 days’ notice and that within that time, Trump Entertainment should be able to find a new company to oversee safety systems.

Trump Entertainment plans to close the Taj Mahal on Nov. 13 unless it wins concessions from its main casino workers’ union, including having workers give up their health insurance and pensions.
