How Vivint Won the 2017 SAMMY Award for Best Community Outreach Program

Discover how Vivint helped children with intellectual disabilities and their families across North and South America.

Based in Provo, Utah, Vivint continues to build upon not just its national presence in security and the smart home, but for its various philanthropic efforts to help children with intellectual disabilities and their families.

In 2016, Vivint employees volunteered for more than 15,000 hours and raised more than $2 million toward a variety of worthy causes. These collective efforts included teaming up with an adolescent residential treatment center near Vivint’s corporate headquarters to create a state-of-the-art sensory center for treating autistic teenagers.

The advanced sensory area is said to be the first of its type in the industry, providing comprehensive therapeutic treatment to help the teens on the autistic spectrum regulate their moods through sensory stimulation.

In addition to this local center, Vivint volunteers created an additional 10 unique sensory rooms at treatment centers throughout North America.

The rooms are created specifically to help children with autism better develop their motor skills and communication proficiency. The rooms include developmental components such as swings, rock-climbing walls, reading nooks and art stations.

Vivint extended its generosity internationally by donating money, time and labor to help people in Mexico and Peru. More than 400 volunteers traveled to struggling communities to provide much-needed help for people with disabilities.

In total, Vivint provided more than 4,000 hours of service, donated $575,000 worth of supplies and impacted the lives of 45,000 children. In Peru, Vivint volunteers painted walls, assembled bunk beds, built sensory rooms and donated soccer balls at 11 different project sites in and around the city of Cusco to help improve the lives and educational opportunities of children with special needs.

In Mexico, where the state of Tlaxcala has more than 44,000 people with disabilities, Vivint partnered with GlobeAware and the Tlaxcala Institute for People With Disabilities to help build an updated center that will provide learning and community opportunities for those with disabilities.

Vivint also collaborated with Feed My Starving Children to package 272,160 meals for underprivileged children in Haiti, Cambodia and Nicaragua.

“Vivint employees are always quick to volunteer and have noted that giving creates a stronger connection to their company, their coworkers and their communities,” says Cameron Fuller, Vivint’s public relations manager. “They take pride in the ways they’ve been able to give back and look forward to more opportunities to contribute.”
