2005 ISC West Special Report: Industry’s Growth Exhibited at 2005 ISC West

LAS VEGAS — Anyone needing evidence of the electronic security industry’s growth would have had all the proof they needed at the 2005 International Security Conference (ISC) West show in Las Vegas. More attendees, more exhibitors and more space were noticeable in the Sands Expo and Convention Center during the four days — April 5 to April 8 — of the 37th conference and expo.

The total number of attendees and exhibitors each went up 11 percent this year. The 20,000-attendee barrier was shattered, as 21,619 dealers, integrators, end users and other attendees strolled the show floor visiting 825 exhibitors.

“You wonder how many years this show will continue to show such dramatic increases in its numbers and popularity and standing within the industry,” says Dean Russo, industry vice president for show organizer Reed Exhibitions, who added there were 239 new companies making their debut at the 2005 event.

Of all the different security products out there for the choosing at this year’s ISC, video seemed to stand out in prevalence. Everywhere one might turn in the exhibit hall was another camera, DVR, monitor or software. For some dealers, there was too much video.

“I’m sick of video. There are a lot of overkill products that are just useless for my customers,” said Joseph Trillo with AAA Alarms and Fire Protection of Warwick, R.I. “There’s just too much. There are 1,000 guys selling the same product. I don’t know how they stay in business!”
