After the installation of 15 card readers and 95 cameras at the new Bank One Ballpark, the fledgling

After ATT Integrated Technologies fitted the 23-acre Bank One Ballpark with access control for its 15 entrances and surrounded it with 95 CCTV cameras inside and out, the cry went out, “Play Ball!”

95 Cameras, 15 Card Readers Manage Park

There are 15 entrances to the stadium, including employee and player gates, each one equipped with an Andover Controls proximity card reader. Working alongside the card readers are 95 Vicon CCTV cameras located around both the inside and outside of the park.

If one of the readers alert security personnel to an alarm, pre-designated CCTV cameras reposition themselves by panning, tilting and zooming to the direction of the disturbance. Operating with the use of fiber optics, the CCTV cameras then become a method of recalling the identity of a perpetrator through the use of a real-time VCR, which tapes any incident.

Separate Security System Relieves Starter

As with pitching, Bank One needed a separate, backup access control system for its food vendor, Restura. ATT was required to install this system to backup the main system. Since Restura, is located inside the stadium and has 12 doors that require protection, ATT put in more readers.

Restura requested 5,000 identification cards, all with video badging capabilities.

Fire System Hits Home Run With Fire Dept.

In the event of a fire, the fire department quickly locates the fire command center, to which they have a key. Once inside, firefighters can sit down at a computer-equipped workstation, and pinpoint the exact location of the problem. The system is able to do this because of its capability to report on each and every smoke detector.

The workstation makes the firefighters’ job simple because of its likeness to a firefighter’s smoke control panel. The computer uses a virtual firefighter’s smoke control panel so that personnel who use it are already familiar with what it looks like, the functions it directs, and where to find certain function controls.

Another operating feature of the fire system is the ability to remove smoke from the stadium area in case of a fire.

Playing Smart Is Equal To Playing Hard

Bank One Ballpark is a smart stadium. This means that all functions, features and controls can be accessed at one central location. It also has the ability to be programmed and think for itself.

One requirement for the stadium was to be able to cool itself to a reasonable temperature in a short period of time before the game. The ballpark is able to reach a temperature of 72° F within three hours.

The smart stadium accomplishes this by keeping the cement in and around the stands at a cooler temperature. Since the stadium has a retractable roof, shade can be kept on specific parts of the stadium. This enables the facility chillers to drop the temperature an amazing 30 degrees or more.
