Bob Dolph Answers Questions on RJ45 Connectors, CCTV Cameras

Q: I have had a big problem lately with getting good RJ45 network connections — especially since more or the network connections are being certified. What do you suggest for the making of better connections the first time?
A: A while back, I ran across the greatest version of the standard RJ45 connector. Instead of trying to make the connectors real short and tight before crimping in the RJ45 jack, you use a patented connector.
It goes by the name of the EZ-RJ45®. It has an open end on the plug so that you can fan out your CAT cable strands, easily push them through the connector, see if you have the cable in the right order, and push it up nice and tight; then you use a RJ45 crimper that crimps the cable wires and cuts of the excessive wire that was pushed through.
You really need to see it to appreciate the simplicity and ease-of-use of this product and tool. Go to www.platinumtools.com.

Q: I have several CCTV cameras on a sequential switcher. I notice that for one of the cameras, the picture bounces or rolls a little bit when switching to that position. I have checked all the power and made camera adjustments, but I still have the problem. Is the camera bad?
A: Probably not. An old trick that I have used is to reverse the leads on the camera power. Yes, I know it is AC but you may have a slight phasing issue with your power and the other cameras. Give it a try and see if the situation improves.
