Bob Dolph Answers Questions on RJ45 Connectors, CCTV Cameras

Q: I have had a big problem lately with getting good RJ45 network connections — especially since more or the network connections are being certified. What do you suggest for the making of better connections the first time?
A: A while back, I ran across the greatest version of the standard RJ45 connector. Instead of trying to make the connectors real short and tight before crimping in the RJ45 jack, you use a patented connector.
It goes by the name of the EZ-RJ45®. Q: I have several CCTV cameras on a sequential switcher. I notice that for one of the cameras, the picture bounces or rolls a little bit when switching to that position. I have checked all the power and made camera adjustments, but I still have the problem. Is the camera bad?
A: Probably not. An old trick that I have used is to reverse the leads on the camera power. Yes, I know it is AC but you may have a slight phasing issue with your power and the other cameras. Give it a try and see if the situation improves.
